Body-Based Therapies - Boulder, CO - Scott Lilleston
Inspiring whole person wellness through integrative bodywork, massage, and the Somatic Re-Patterning Approach™.
More than ever before the medical and psychology professions are recognizing the benefits of modalities that are outside of their respective models. In particular, research is identifying massage and other manual modalities as therapeutically valuable, especially when provided by highly skilled and experience practitioners.
My greatest interest is in working with individuals who are inspired by whole person healing. Whether or not clients come to me for relief from specific challenges, such as anxiety, injury, pain management and peri-operative support, many continue working with me to maintain their overall physical, emotional and mental well-being over many years. My approach is not a surface level fix, it is an integrative, holistic approach that will offer sustainable, long lasting support over the lifespan.
In addition, I bring years of experience of working collaboratively with psychologists, psychiatrists and other health care providers to provide clients with the most well rounded support system for their healing process.
Below is a list of the modalities and techniques that I use with clients. We will work together to establish an individualized treatment plan that meets your needs.
Advanced Myofascial Therapy Techniques (MFT)
There are many reasons for myofascial restrictions that include surgery, physical traumas and even daily habitual movement and holding patterns. These restrictions are often the culprit of chronic pain and function issues that often will not show up in standard testing. My myofascial release techniques focus on treating the entire system, body and mind, to help alleviate the restrictions and symptoms that you are experiencing.
Neuromuscular Triggerpoint Therapy (NMT)
NMT is effective in working with soft tissue in relation to chronic pain and even acute pain from accidents and injuries. In particular areas of ischemia, neural entrapment, postural dysfunction, and referring pain.
Probably the most familiar to people, Swedish massage is not only helpful in eliciting relaxation for clients, but is also helpful in increasing circulation, draining metabolic waste from limbs, boosting the immune system, and is widely used as an integral part of working with pain management and injury protocols. It is also important in decreasing cortisol and increasing serotonin, which are both helpful in minimizing signs of depression and anxiety.
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)
Not only are these techniques helpful with stretching and movement but also are helpful in developing muscle endurance and strength, neuromuscular control, and joint stability. In combination with other techniques, PNF is used to support overall healthier physical function.
Additional circumstances that my work will support:
Pre-operative support: My work can help support and prepare you for surgery or other procedures. The goal is to prepare and enhance the health of tissue to create the best possible results of the given surgical procedure. It can also help minimize pre-op anxiety.
Peri-operative support and post operative rehabilitation: My work can help minimize or alleviate pain, reduce recovery time, minimize scar tissue, minimize post-op anxiety, and minimize potential for post-op depression.

Somatic Re-patterning Approach™
As you can see, I come from a very diverse background, working with massage therapy, myofascial techniques, trauma touch, and psychotherapy. Through extensive training and many years of utilizing these modalities, I have gained great insight into the subtleties of what makes lasting healing occur.
From this understanding, I created the Somatic Re-patterning Approach™ as an alternative to traditional talk therapy. My approach is the culmination of intensive observation of what works and what doesn’t in the healing process.
This approach guides clients in identifying, exploring, and shifting limiting core beliefs and somatic patterns that often manifest themselves as:
- Chronic pain
- Learning difficulties
- Low self-esteem
- Relationship challenges
- Social anxiety
- High sensitivity to environmental stimuli, and more
The Somatic Re-patterning Approach™ is a body-based approach to whole person healing. It is designed to work with core emotional patterns, belief systems, and traumas.
The positive feedback on this unique work has been phenomenal!
“Scott is a master of bodywork! There is simply nobody who has a skill-set like Scott; a combination of refined professional knowledge about the body and anatomy, deep intuition and all-over exceptional talent. He is continually augmenting his work through his studies in order to serve his clients in diverse ways. Through his gifted ways of working with the body, he always helps to create space within me, excavating my heart and soul and as a result, my body feels so good after a session!” Merryl Rothaus, Psychotherapist
Through my own experience with chronic neck and lower back pain, I found a direct correlation between my emotional / psychological world and the physical experience in my body. Once I realized this stark correlation between my mind and body, real healing began to take place. As I started to improve my psychological well-being and emotional intelligence, my body started responding, resulting in less pain!
I know how powerful and effective this approach can be. I also know how hard it is to do it alone. That is why I took this journey towards helping others in this way. After working with countless people I’ve discovered that true healing arises when you and I work in tandem together. Healing doesn’t happen TO you, it happens WITH you. Together, if you are committed to finding greater health, we can create your healing journey.
The results clients are experiencing include:
- Greater emotional freedom
- Relief from chronic pain and autoimmune challenges
- Increased physical performance
- Increased body-mind awareness
- Richer emotional life
- And healthier relationships, to name just a few!
